The tissue in theupper half is quite firm, in the lower more relaxed and spongy.Fat is its chief structure. A portion of the tendinous origin of the spheno-staphyli-nus muscle unites with the firmer portion of the wall, and forsome distance this origin runs in a thin layer between theupper border of the soft wall of the tube, and unites with theconvex surface of the latter.
