The top floor is pro-vided with a roof of the weavingshed type, specially constructed togive a good north light for buyers.Returning to the docks, the WaterlooDocks are surrounded by the Water-loo grain warehouses, which are offireproof construction and five storieshigh. Along the three blocks ofwarehouses there are railway sid-ings, whilst the whole of the ma-chinery, both inside and outside, isdriven by hydraulic power. A beltconveyor is used inside the ware-houses for conveying the grain andwheat, etc., stored therein from onepart of the building to another. Thesoutheastern block of the Waterloowarehouse has recently been let offto Messrs. Thomas Rigby & Sonsfor use as a flour mill, and alreadymuch milling has been done, andquite cheaply, for the boats comestraight to the mill from the opensea, whilst the ground wheat isdespatched in railway trucks fromthe door to destination. 3-2 210 CASSIERS MAGAZINE silos have been provided on the dockwalls of the warehouses. Proceed-ing again southwards, the Princesand its Half-Tide Dock are reached.The former of these has been widenedby the projection forward into thedock of a piled structure, 708 feetlong and 70 feet wide, on which asingle-story brick shed has beenerected. The Irish boats are berthedat these docks, and on certain occa-sions sail therefrom direct to sea.Running parallel to the west side ofthe Princes Dock is the RiversideRailway station, commenced in 1894and opened the same year. This isa commodious building covered by awrought iron roof of one large span85 feet in width, and used for theembarkation and landing of passen-gers to and from Euston for Amer-ica and Canada. From its designand the tasteful colours used fordecoration the station has a lightand pleasing appearance, though itstotal length is 790 feet and it is pro-vided with three platforms, each 770feet long.
