Rapper and activist Lowkey (Kareem Denis) talks to activists outside the Israeli Embassy in London about opposition to Israeli Apartheid and the occupation. Back in 2009, he released the single - "Long Live Palestine" and later in 2011 "Soundtrack to the Struggle" which peaked at number 14 in the UK album charts.

In February 2009, Lowkey performed in West Bank refugee camps to raise money for reconstruction in the Gaza Strip which had been recently devastated by a three-week Israeli assault by land and air (27 December 2008 - 18 January 2009). He was detained and interrogated for several hours at Ben Gurion International Airport..

In March this year it was reported that a pro-Israel lobby group was campaigning to pressure Spotify to delete Lowkey's 'Long Live Palestine - Part 2" track. Boris Johnson also criticized the National Union of Students for inviting Lowkey to an event, and without naming him, claimed falsely that the Union had invited 'someone who is engaged in anti-Semite conspiracy theories - a rapper.'

The consequence of such attempts at censorship is that this is just the beginning of a campaign to silence all those who take a stand against Israeli Apartheid. Activist Asa Winstanley comments that Lowkey's three "Long Live Palestine" tracks have become anthems for the Palestine Solidarity Movement in the UK.'

The protest (shown in this photo) outside the Israeli embassy followed a massive raid by Israeli security forces on the Al Aqsa mosque, the third holiest site in Islam, during which women and journalists can be seen on video being attacked by baton wielding riot police - others were injured by rubber bullets.

The mosque itself was flooded with tear gas and hundreds of Palestinians were arrested. The Palestinian Red Crescent claimed that Israeli occupation forces refused to allow ambulances access.

The protest also followed the killing of dozens of Palestinians by Israeli Security forces in recent weeks as well as an Amnesty International's report on 1 February 2022 which concluded that Israel's extensive use of segregation, dispossessions and legal discrimination amounted to Apartheid, which it described as a 'cruel system of oppression and a crime against humanity.'
