DescripciónVirupa - Cleveland Museum of Art (27867020604).jpg
Statue of Virupa made about 1400 AD in China. On display at the Cleveland Museum of Art in Cleveland, Ohio. The statue is of gilt bronze, and was made in the royal kilns of the Jianwen Emperor of the Ming Dynasty as a gift for a Buddhist monastic leader.
Virupa is one of the greatest teaches in tantric Buddhism. He is depicted gesturing to stop the sun (as an enlightened being, he has control over nature). As a tantric practitioner, Virupa overeats and drinks to excess, waiting for the king to pay his bill.
