Spice Girls fueron una girl group británica formada en 1994 por Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm y Geri Halliwell.[1] Ellas han grabado distintas canciones que fueron incluidas en tres álbumes de estudio, un álbum de grandes éxitos y once sencillos.[1] Su álbum debut Spice fue lanzado originalmente en noviembre de 1996 en Europa. Spice Girls compusieron las letras de todas las canciones junto con los productores británicos Paul Wilson, Andy Watkins, Andy Bradfield, Matt Rowe y Richard Stannard.[2][3] Las sesiones de grabación se realizaron entre finales de 1995 y mediados de 1996.[2][3] Del álbum se desprenden los sencillos «Wannabe», «Say You'll Be There», «2 Become 1» y «Mama»/«Who Do You Think You Are».[1]
El año siguiente se publicó internacionalmente el álbum de estudio Spiceworld (1997). Para el disco, Spice Girls volvieron a trabajar con Wilson, Watkins, Rowe y Stannard en la composición y producción de los temas incluidos en el álbum.[4] Como parte de la promoción, se lanzaron los sencillos «Spice Up Your Life», «Too Much», «Stop» y «Viva Forever».[1] En 1998 Halliwell abandonó el grupo debido al «agotamiento» que estaba sufriendo en el momento.[5] Como consecuencia, Spice Girls compusieron con Stannard y Rowe su sencillo «Goodbye» y la dedicaron a Halliwell.[6] Dos años después Forever (2000) se lanzó como su tercer y último álbum de estudio. Las canciones fueron compuestas en su mayoría por las cuatro miembros junto con los productores de R&B LaShawn Daniels, Fred Jerkins III, Rodney «Darkchild» Jerkins, Harvey Mason Jr., Richard «Biff» Stannard, Jimmy Jam y Terry Lewis.[7] Tras separarse a comienzos del siglo 21, en el 2007 se reunieron nuevamente las cinco miembros del grupo y publicaron su álbum de grandes éxitos Greatest Hits. Del álbum se desprenden las canciones «Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)» y «Voodoo».[8]
Spice Girls también participaron en distintas colaboraciones. En 1997 realizaron una versión de «Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now» con Luther Vandross y la publicaron como lado B del sencillo «Stop».[9] El año siguiente cantaron con Luciano Pavarotti una nueva versión en italiano de «Viva Forever»; titulada «Viva Forever (Io ci saro)», se incluyó en el álbum en vivo de Pavarotti & Friends for the Children of Liberia.[10] Por otro lado, colaboraron con Elton John en el tema «My Strongest Suit» para el álbum conceptual Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida (1999).[11] También formaron parte de varios supergrupos para lanzar los sencillos de caridad «(How Does It Feel to Be) On Top of the World?» y «It's Only Rock 'N' Roll».[12][13]
