The council of Burtnieki Municipality adopted the flag 28 January 2015.

Apstiprināts ar Burtnieku novada pašvaldības domes 2015.gada 28.janvāra sēdes lēmumu.
Burtnieku novada karoga apraksts
Burtnieku novada karogs ir taisnstūra audums ar platuma un augstuma attiecību 2:1, karogs ir divpusējs, uz tā ir attēlota Burtnieku novada ģerboņa simbolika: zilā laukā viļņota sudraba sija trīsdalījumā, tai pāri sēdošs zelta burtnieks ar kokli klēpī.
Karogs izgatavojams šādos lielumos 200 cm × 100 cm.[1]
