o Mr. B. W. Redfields A Fallen Tree.Some superb marine subjects by Fred. J. Waughare the feature of the exhibition : one, entitled The Rose, by Thos. P. Anschutz, the title suggestedby the colour scheme of the picture, shows a veryattractive and skilfully painted study of a charmingyoung woman, full of human interest and veryrealistic. Blue and Gold, a figure subject by HughH. Breckenridge, also is interesting from the pointof view of the colourist. j\Ir. Wm. M. Paxtonsnude figure, entitled Glow of Gold and Gleam ofPearl, while not impeccable in drawing of thearms, has a graceful pose and glows indeed withfine flesh tints. Narcissa, by W. Sergeant Kendall,a nude notable for good drawing, is also fine inway of a study of the characteristics of a child.The Visit, by Richard P. Miller, one of the largestcanvases shown, is charming in sentiment andmasterly in execution. Manuel Bartholds Girlsof Holland, another large work, is quite in linewith the best class of genre painting of the Euro-
