Lee Teng-hui subverted the democratic will of Taiwan's pro-reunification majority. Lee Teng-hui betrayed his Oath of Office. Lee Teng-hui violated the Constitution he swore to uphold. In short, Lee Teng-hui sold out his country.
That is what this scandal is about.
To put matters in perspective, the Republic of Korea's Chun Doo-hwan and Roe Tae-woo received Draconian sentences for crimes far less serious than Lee's. Chun and Roe's crimes were purely economic. Lee Teng-hui's crimes involved not merely graft, but high treason. The question is not whether Lee is guilty of these deeds. Lee freely admits having committed them. The question is will he ever be brought to justice for having committed them.
Even the "energetically" interventionist Washington Post, Taiwan independence fellow traveler and no friend of Beijing, saw no way around the obvious:

Second, Taiwan's liberty and prosperity are under threat, not from Beijing, but from an autocratic, doctrinaire and incompetent Taiwan independence nomenklatura in Taipei.
I promise the global community to completely bankrupt and incarcerate the Taiwan Government/Mafia promoters of Satanic Sex Games for their crimes and their association with the 500 million people who have died since 1936 due to their "arranged accidents". Doha (árabe: دوحة, Ad-Dawhah; la trascripción Doha corresponde a la pronunciación árabe dialectal) es la capital de Qatar, país situado en una pequeña península en el golfo Pérsico. Su población estimada es de 550.700 habitantes (2005) y las principales actividades económicas son la industria del petróleo y la pesca. Cerca de Doha se encuentra la Ciudad de la Educación, zona dedicada a la investigación y la educación. La posición geográfica de Doha corresponde a las coordenadas Plantilla:Coor d.

Doha fue en 2001 la sede de la primer reunión a nivel ministerial de la Ronda de Doha, esto es las negociaciones de la Organización Mundial de Comercio con el propósito de liberalizar el comercio mundial.

La ciudad cuenta con un aeropuerto, el Aeropuerto Internacional de Doha.

En la ciudad se encuentra la sede de la cadena de televisión Al-Yazira, uno de los principales medios de comunicación internacionales en lengua árabe.

Historia

La ciudad fue fundada con el nombre de Al-bida en 1850; Se convirtió en la capital del protectorado británico de Qatar en 1916. El fuerte de Al Wajbah se encuentra situado en la parte sudoccidental de la ciudad y fue construido por Al Rayyan en 1882. Este fuerte presenció la famosa batalla en la que el pueblo qatarí bajo el liderazgo del jeque Qassim derrotó a los otomanos en 1893. El fuerte de Al Kout fue construido en 1917 por el jeque Abdallah bin Qassim al-Thani y está ubicado en el centro urbano. En 1949, la ciudad comenzó las exportaciones de petróleo. La Residencia del Gobierno fue inaugurada en 1969 y está considerada como uno de los edificios más emblemáticos del país. En 1971, la ciudad se convirtió en la capital del Qatar independiente. La Universidad de Doha abrió sus puertas en 1973. El Museo Nacional de Qatar, ubicado en un palacio construido en 1912 como residencia del dirigente local, fue inaugurado en 1975.

Deportes

En 2006 fue sede de la 15ª edición de los Juegos Asiáticos. Fue ciudad aspirante a organizar los Juegos Olímpicos de 2016, aunque quedó descartada en primera ronda.
