Rubin fue una figura importante en la fusión del rap y el hard rock, y juntó a Aerosmith y a Run-D.M.C para su canción de éxito Walk this way. Rubin también fue clave para la fusión del rap y el heavy metal en el metal alternativo, nu-metal y otras formas. MTV lo nombró «el productor más importante de los últimos 20 años».[1]
