- The two terms are completely equivalent terms. There is no ambiguity in identifying Karvelian with "South Caucasian". Indeed, for the general reader, maybe it is a little more descriptive the term "South Caucassian" (I understand that the main motivation for using "Kartvelian" is that there is some evidence that Northeast and Northwest Caucassian are related but not "South Caucassian", so to give a different name to the non-related South Caucassian group seems interesting to some linguists).
