The American Association of Procurement, Supply Chain and Tourism Management Professionals, otherwise known as the ‘American Association of Procurement and Supply Chain Management (AAPSCM)®’ is s an American non-profit 501(c)(3) trade association issuing professional certifications in the combined areas of Procurement, Supply Chain and Tourism Management. It has its secretariat in Boiling, Springs, South Carolina in the United States.

History

American Association of Procurement, Supply-Chain, and Tourism Management (AAPSCM)® was originally created in 2018 by a group of certification examiners in the United States who desired a combined recognition that would include Tourism management. An International Consortium was formed which resulted in the formation of AAPSCM® with a registered trademark.  In 2020, the AAPSCM® moved to open-access global certification offerings and expanded their reach to engage a broader and more diverse management areas to include tourism management by testing their members and awarding certifications. The quality of the programs was kept in alignment with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), ISO 17024 and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards with a communique to ensure compliance with their accreditations.

It sets its goal to promote and develop high standards of professional skill, ability, and integrity among all those engaged in Procurement, Sustainable, Supply Chain, and Tourism management.

Through short training, certifications, philanthropy, and market research, AAPSCM promotes industry growth; the development of a skilled workforce, and a commitment to creating an environment where innovation happens and where production or service provision processes embolden the Inputs of the right’ quality, delivered in the right quantity, to the right place, at the right time, or the right price.

The organization claims to have skilled professionals who can ensure that risks of supply failure or disruption are minimized and/or ‘covered’ by contingency plans in global commerce.

Certifications

AAPSCM® administers its certifications exams through their accredited affiliate agents and on-line testing. The organization offers six certifications that recognize knowledge and competency:

  1. American Certified Procurement Professional (ACPP)®
  2. American Certified Procurement Manager (ACPM)®
  3. American Certified Supply-Chain Professional (ACSCP)®
  4. American Certified Supply-Chain Manager (ACSCM)®
  5. American Certified Tourism Professional (ACTP)®
  6. American Certified Tourism Manager (ACTM)®

-         American Certified Procurement Professional (ACPP)®: focuses on an overview of procurement fundamentals, basic definitions and sourcing strategies, supplier relationship management, negotiations, evaluation metrics, etc.

-         American Certified Procurement Manager (ACPM)®:  focuses on the development of a procurement plan, ethics, change management, logistics, contract statement of work, contract evaluation criteria, processes of contract administration and closure

-         American Certified Supply-Chain Professional (ACSCP)®:  All functional areas of supply chain management are explored in an integrated view of procurement, manufacturing and operations management, transportation and logistics, inventory and warehousing, demand planning, and scheduling

-         American Certified Supply-Chain Manager (ACSCM)®:  Focuses on logistics, digital coordination for supply chain integration, inventory management, risk pooling, procurement, product and process design, and international supply chain management, including logistics, digital coordination of decisions and resources, inventory and risk management, procurement and supply contracting, product and process design, and revenue management.

-         American Certified Tourism Professional (ACTP)®:  assessment in the areas of Hospitality, tourism management and marketing, Destination marketing and management, Sustainable tourism, Tourism and environment, Tourism planning and regional development, Entrepreneurship in Tourism and Hospitality

-          

-         American Certified Tourism Manager (ACTM)®: crisis management techniques in tourism, assessing social, environmental, political, and economic benefits and detriments of tourism development; understanding managerial responsibilities in comprehensive recreation and tourism business plan; and create strategic management decisions for non-profit and for-profit recreation/tourism organizations


Spartanburg, South Carolina Charter

AAPSCM® sets Spartanburg to represent the home for its conferences, meetings, workshops and library where all resources can be shared and researched in respect to its fundamental principles. It created a charter to represent the interests of all its members.  The charter reinforced their globally recognized standards, certification program, extensive academic and market research programs, and professional development opportunities. All professional members are expected to be part of the charter. The charter is also the home for their annual world conference.

Awards

AAPSCM® honors procurement, supply chain and tourism management professionals in various categories, e.g. procurement, supply chain and tourism specialists of the year award, Scholars, Accredited Trainers of the year and Accredited Academy Partner, etc.
