Deborah Jane Mailman (Mount Isa, Australia, 14 de julio de 1972) es una actriz australiana, conocida por interpretar a Kelly Lewis en la serie The Secret Life of Us. Deborah fue la primera actriz aborigen en ganar un premio AFI por la mejor actriz en un papel protagónico.
Biografía[editar]
Es hija de Wally, un ex-jinete de rodeo y de Jane Mailman, es la más joven de cinco hijos.
Tiene dos herencias: una es indígena de Australia y la otra es maorí.
En 1992 Deborah se graduó del Queensland University of Technology's Academy of the Arts.
Mailman sale con Matthew Coonan, un ejecutivo de publicidad. En el 2007 la pareja le dio la bienvenida a su primer hijo juntos, Henry. Más tarde en el 2010 le dieron la bienvenida a su segundo hijo, Oliver "Olly" Coonan.[1][2][3]

Entre sus participaciones en teatro se encuentran A Midsummer Night's, The Small Poppies, Antigone, The 7 Stages of Grieving, The Sappires, Mother Courage and her Children, The Lost Echo, The Bourgeois Gentlemen, Tales from Vienna Woods, As You Like It,Aliwa, entre muchas otras...
De 1998 al 2001 fue presentadora del programa infantil Play School. Ese mismo año en 1998 ganó su primer premio por su actuación como Nona en la película independiente Radiance.
Del 2001 al 2006 interpretó a la estudiante Kelly Lewis en la serie The Secret Life of Us, en la serie también narraba algunos episodios. En el 2001 interpretó de nuevo a Kelly en la película con el mismo nombre. Por su interpretación ganó dos premios logie en las categorías de actriz más sobresaliente y actriz más sobresaliente en una serie dramática, Deborah también fue nominada a un premio AFI en la categoría de mejor actriz en un papel principal.
En el 2009 hizo su debut como directora del cortometraje Ralph, el cual se estrenó ese mismo año en el Festival de Cine Message Sticks Indigenous, ese mismo año junto con los productores Jessie Mangum y Kylie Du Fresne ganaron el premio The Holding Redlich IF Award por mejor cortometraje.
En el 2010 se unió al elenco de la serie australiana Offspring donde interpreta a la enfermera Cherie Butterfield,[4] la mejor amiga de la doctora Nina Proudman (Asher Keddie) hasta ahora. Ese mismo año junto al actor Wesley Enoch escribieron la obra The 7 Stages of Grieving.
En el 2012 se unió al elenco de la película Mabo donde interpretó a Bonita Mabo y en la miniserie indígena Redfern Now interpretó a Lorraine una mujer acusada de fraude.[5]
Ese mismo año se unió al elenco de la película The Sapphires donde interpretó a Gail McCrae, una mujer aborigen que se une junto a sus familiares Julie (Jessica Mauboy), Kay (Shari Sebbens) y Cynthia McCrae (Miranda Tapsell) para formar un grupo de cantantes de soul conocido como "The Sapphires".
A principios de mayo del 2017 se anunció que se había unido a la serie animada Little J and Big Cuz donde dará vida a Big Cuz.[6]
En agosto del 2018 se anunció que se había unido al elenco principal de la nueva serie Bite Club donde dará vida a la superintendente de la policía Anna Morton.[7]
