La actriz estadounidense Lauren Bacall (1924 – 2014) tuvo una extensa carrera en cine, televisión y teatro; fue una de las protagonistas principales durante la época de oro de Hollywood, junto a actrices como Marilyn Monroe y Rita Hayworth.[1]​ Bacall comenzó su carrera como modelo de moda adolescente cuando apareció en la portada de Harper's Bazaar y fue descubierta por Nancy, la esposa de Howard Hawks.[2]​[3]​ Como tenía una voz aguda y nasal, recibió lecciones para que la ayudaran a profundizarla y como parte de su entrenamiento tenía que repetir versos de Shakespeare en voz alta durante varias horas todos los días.[4]​[5]​

La primera aparición de Bacall en una película fue con Humphrey Bogart en Tener y no tener (1944). Al año siguiente se casó con Bogart y protagonizó junto a él The Big Sleep (1946), La senda tenebrosa (1947) y Key Largo (1948). También protagonizó las comedias How to Marry a Millionaire (1953) con Marilyn Monroe, Designing Woman (1957) con Gregory Peck y Sex and the Single Girl (1964) con Natalie Wood. También participó en Asesinato en el Orient Express (1976) y El último pistolero (1976).

Más adelante apareció en las películas All I Want for Christmas (1991), Prêt-à-Porter (1994), The Mirror Has Two Faces (1996), My Fellow Americans (1996), Diamonds (1999), Dogville (2003), Eve (2008) y The Forger (2012). Por su papel de Hannah Morgan en The Mirror Has Two Faces, Bacall ganó el Globo de Oro a mejor actriz de reparto y fue nominada a un BAFTA y a un premio de la Academia.[6]​[7]​[8]​ Su trabajo televisión incluyó apariciones en Mr. Broadway (1964), Chicago Hope (1998), The Rockford Files (1979), además de proporcionar la voz para Evelyn personaje de la serie animada Family Guy (2014).

Bacall también participó en musicales de Broadway como: Cactus Flower (1965), Applause 1970, Woman of the Year (1981) y The Visit (1995). Por sus papeles en Applause y Woman of the Year, ganó el Premio Tony a la mejor actriz en un musical.[9]​[10]​
