Fernando Morett-Lopez (born Fernando Javier Morett-Lopez on May 11, 1948 in México City, D.F., México) is a Mexican television and theatre executive producer. Director of special projects for Televisa (1979-1994), where he was the executive producer for the daily morning show, assistant to the VP of Fundación Cultural Televisa and executive producer, writer and director of Plaza Sésamo. He was the producer and director of Los Cuentos de Cri-Cri, with Plácido Domingo the most watched show in Mexican television history among other highly creative and distinctive cultural programs. From 1986 he was the leading theatre producer. Cats, with 750 sold out performances, inaugurated a new era for musicals in Mexico. In eight years he produced more than 50 plays with great artistic and economic success. Entre Mujeres performed to sold out audiences for more than 5 years.

Fernando Morett-Lopez also has an academic career in Communications. He graduated Cum Laude in 1972 from Universidad Iberoamericana and taught Communication Theories and script writing until 1975, when he went to Stanford University to study a Ph.D. in Communications (1975-1978). In 1979 he was named Chairman of the Department of Communications at Universidad Iberoamericana until 1982.

Fernando Morett-Lopez is known as a highly-respected producer and show-runner of world-class television content, incorporating his academic and research skills overseeing obsesively each story from page to screen. To this date, his production of Los Cuentos de Cri Cri holds the record for the most watched television special in Mexico’s history, with over 80% of the population tuning in to watch. Cats Mexico, the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, also has the record of most sold out performances, and Entre Mujeres, an all women comedy, performed to sold out performances for over 5 years.

With over 50 highly successful theatre plays under his belt and with 5 extremely successful Plaza Sésamo seasons, where he innovated the set with a design by renowed architect Ricardo Legorreta gaining international recognition.

Throughout the years, Morett’s productions have been widely recognized for bringing innovation to one of the main genres of entertainment worldwide and the cornerstone of Televisa’s offer. She has also spearheaded transmedia strategies with her productions that take viewers beyond the TV screen with storytelling that spans digital and social platforms.

In 1995 he launched Canal 40 or CNI, where he developed and produced original programming that were a trade mark and innovation

Fernando Morett lives in Mexico City and travels frequently to New York to live with his only son and his wife Gloria, who he’s been married to for over 45 years.
