Dean y Dan Caten

Dean and Dan Caten (born Dean and Dan Catenacci) are identical twin brother fashion designers and the creators of Dsquared2, a high-end fashion label.

Biography[editar]

Early life and career[editar]

Dean and Dan Caten were born in 1965 as Dean and Dan Caten in Toronto Ontario. They are the youngest of nine children. In 1991, the brothers moved to Milan, Italy to create their own collections and become fashion designers.[1] They debuted their men's collection in 1994, and in 2003, they launched a women's collection and a men's underwear collection.[2]

Design and fashion shows[editar]

The brothers are known for designing clothes and staging elaborate fashion shows with "explosive energy and sex appeal."[cita requerida] They design men's and women's apparel, men's and women's footwear, fragrances, and cosmetics.[3].[1] A runway show in 2005 ended with Christina Aguilera stripping male models of their clothes.[2] In September 2007, the DSquared2 fashion show in Milan featured Rihanna entering the stage in an American muscle car, followed by a runway walk.[4] Their designs have been worn by Britney Spears [5], Madonna,[1]Justin Timberlake, Ricky Martin, Nicolas Cage, and Lenny Kravitz.[6] In 2000-2001, Madonna commissioned them to design over 150 pieces for her Drowned World Tour 2001 and "Don't Tell Me" music video.[1] DSquared2's design was also featured in Britney Spears' Circus tour. They have been featured on America's Next Top Model[1] and appeared in the music video for Fergie's "Clumsy."[7] In 2006, the brothers were selected to design the new official uniforms for football team Juventus.[1] In March 2008, Dean and Dan signed an agreement to design sunglasses with Marcolin, an Italian sunglasses and spectacle manufacturer. The collection is set to be released in 2009.[3]

DSquared2 stores[editar]

In June 2007, the first DSquared2 flagship was opened in Milan's fashion district. Stores have also opened in Capri, Istanbul, Kiev, and Hong Kong.[8]

Awards[editar]

The Catens were awarded the 2003 GQ Men of the Year Breakout Design Award. In 2006, they received the Golden Needle Award, joining past prestigious winners such as Oscar de la Renta, Gianni Versace, Manolo Blahnik, Jean Paul Gaultier, John Galliano, and Tom Ford.[1]

Radio[editar]

The Canadian twin brothers will get their own radio program called Dean and Dan on Air: Style in Stereo. Slated to begin airing on May 5th on Sirius satellite radio’s BPM channel, the program will play a variety of music (including soundtracks from select DSquared2 runway shows), along with celebrity interviews, fashion and political discussions.

The attire, and the denim in particular, is a favorite among musicians like Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Rihanna, and Madonna, who asked the duo to create more than 150 pieces for her 2002 Drowned World Tour. The brothers opened their flagship store in Milan in 2007, complete with an exclusive Champagne bar, and subsequently launched locations in Capri, Kiev, Istanbul, and Hong Kong.[1]
