Mediktor[editar]

Mediktor is a health-tech company that developed an advanced AI-based chatbot to evaluate symptoms and drive users online to the right care point according to their urgency level. This white-label software is based on reviewed medical data and provides a list of possible diseases and recommendations at the onset of symptoms. Different healthcare business models can leverage Mediktor's technology by integrating the solution into their care flow, optimizing time and resources.

The company has offices at the historical building Sant Pau Recinte Modernista, Barcelona, Spain.

Location[editar]

The company has offices in Barcelona and New York. It serves clients from all around the world, counting a total of 30 countries.

History[editar]

Mediktor was founded in Barcelona, Spain in 2011 by Dr. Oscar García-Esquirol[1], an intensive care provider, and Cristian Pascual[2], an industrial engineer. The goal was to design an intuitive and safe tool that allows patients to evaluate their symptoms through an advanced AI medical-oriented algorithm. This way, both patients and professionals would benefit from more efficient and streamlined assistance processes.

Roger Forcada,[3] current Mediktor's CTO, started working on developing the technology and the AI algorithms behind the question modeling and symptom evaluations. After a period of database shaping and feeding, in 2014, Mediktor was launched in Android and iOS. In 2016, DKV (Munich Re, Spain) became the first client of Mediktor. Step by step, through constant improvements and software enhancements, Mediktor now serves over 30 million people worldwide[4] and has successfully closed deals with relevant companies in 30 countries.

To clinically validate the solution, Mediktor underwent multiple clinical studies with real patients. Moreover, Mediktor is categorized as Medical Device Class I.

Solution[editar]

Mediktor is the most advanced AI-based medical chatbot for triage and pre-diagnosis that guides patients to the right level of care at the right time – improving access while enabling more efficient care navigation. Powered by a sophisticated AI engine that enables users to converse naturally in several languages, Mediktor’s white-labeled SaaS is omnichannel and can be easily embedded into any interface (web, mobile, desktop).

Businesses that embed the medical chatbot into their platforms can associate the final results of every evaluation with their company’s available outcomes. Mediktor is fully customizable and adapts to various solutions.

Health Insurers[5][editar]

Mediktor is the most chosen AI healthcare solution by relevant payers around the globe. It directs insurance company members to the most appropriate and cost-efficient healthcare pathway.

Pharma Industry or Life Science companies[6][editar]

Mediktor identifies undiagnosed and misdiagnosed patients online for the company's key pathologies. The AI chatbot triggers early disease detection and promptly directs patients to the appropriate treatment. Moreover, the solution can accurately select qualified leads for clinical studies.

Telemedicine[7][editar]

Mediktor’s solution ensures the patient's suitability for telemedicine and directs them to the right professional.

Hospital and Health Systems[editar]

Mediktor provides two different solutions for Hospitals and Health Systems

  • Hospital Digital Front Door[8]

Mediktor drives patients, both established and non-established, to clinics and hospital care.

  • Mediktor+[9]

An AI-based software that assists professional staff during triage, enabling quick and precise management of demand based on symptom severity.

Technology[editar]

Mediktor combines a set of in-house developed AI technologies, including machine learning, deep learning, and Natural Language Processing. The user introduces their symptoms with their own words, even if misspelled, as Mediktor’s engine can fully understand over 45,000 synonyms of symptoms and diseases per language. After a series of questions, which on average last less than 3 minutes, Mediktor’s AI deploys a list of possible conditions, the urgency level  and a list of recommendations on the best next step regarding their health.

Mediktor owns a white-box model technology. Unlike black box algorithms like ChatGPT, it is possible to understand why and how the machine arrived at a specific result. In Mediktor’s case, after finalizing a symptom evaluation, the particular parameters that guided the algorithm to arrive at a pre-diagnosis or recommendation are fully transparent and distinguishable. White-box technologies allow the shape of AI processes and diminish the risk of biases in such a critical step as the onset of symptoms. Mediktor works towards health equity as it can improve access to care for all, irrespective of socioeconomic, gender, or geographic barriers.

Health equity[editar]

Mediktor shows a strong commitment towards health equity through multiple strategies:

  • Natural Language Processing technology offers a human-like conversation. NLP allows users to write their symptoms in their own words, regardless of their literacy level, and manage misspelled words.
  • It provides a feature for transgender patients of the LGTBIQ+ & Non-binary collective[10] to define treatments through determined questions oriented to gender and transitioning treatment types.
  • The company launched new features to adapt the questioning model to the needs of people with sensory[11], physical[12], and intellectual [13]disabilities.

Financing[editar]

In 2021, Mediktor closed an €11 million investment round[14] to improve its technology and expand its international presence. It was led by MTIP[15], a European growth capital investor specializing in digital health technologies, and it also counted on Alta Life Sciences, the lead investor in the previous round (€3 million[16]).
