EV[editar]

Ciao.

The Universal Code of Conduct (UCoC): we want to hear from you.[editar]

Invitation to participate in the conversation[editar]

Hola. Apologies for cross-posting, and that you may not be reading this message in your native language: translations of the following announcement may be available on Meta. Por favor, ayuda a traducir a tu idioma. ¡Muchas gracias!

We are excited to share a draft of the Universal Code of Conduct, which the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees called for earlier this year, for your review and feedback. The discussion will be open until October 6, 2020.

The UCoC Drafting Committee wants to learn which parts of the draft would present challenges for you or your work. What is missing from this draft? What do you like, and what could be improved?

Please join the conversation and share this invitation with others who may be interested to join, too.

To reduce language barriers during the process, you are welcomed to translate this message and the Universal Code of Conduct/Draft review. You and your community may choose to provide your opinions/feedback using your local languages.

To learn more about the UCoC project, see the Universal Code of Conduct page, and the FAQ, on Meta.

Thanks in advance for your attention and contributions, The Trust and Safety team at Wikimedia Foundation, 17:47 10 sep 2020 (UTC)

Your feedback is required![editar]

Hola. Apologies if this message is not in your native language: please feel free to respond in the language of your choice. Por favor, ayuda a traducir a tu idioma. ¡Muchas gracias!

I am writing to you because we are looking for feedback for a new WMF project, Structured Data Across Wikimedia (SDAW). SDAW is a grant-funded programme that will explore ways to structure content on wikitext pages in a way that will be machine-recognizable and -relatable, in order to make reading, editing, and searching easier and more accessible across projects and on the Internet. We are now focusing on designing and building image suggestion features for experienced users.

We have some questions to ask you about your experience with uploading images here on Wikimedia Commons and then adding them to Wikipedia:

  1. From your experience, what is the hardest part about adding images to articles?
  2. We have provided a few options for how we might incorporate machine-generated image suggestions into the editor workflow. As a Commons user, you might be particularly interested in option #5, where we are exploring notifying users who have uploaded an image if the image(s) they’ve uploaded are a match to any articles on wikis in the language(s) the user speaks. What concerns do you have about these options? What excites you about these options?
  3. How can we help users add appropriate captions?

You can answer these questions on a specific feedback page on Mediawiki, where we will gather feedback. As I said, these questions are in English, but your answers do not need to be in English! You can also answer in your own language, if you feel more comfortable.

Once the collecting of feedback will be over, we will sum it up and share with you a summary, along with updated mocks that will incorporate your inputs.

Also, if you want to keep in touch with us or you want to know more about the project, you can subscribe to our newsletter.

Hope to hear from you soon! -- Sannita (WMF) (talk to me!) 16:57 30 jul 2021 (UTC)[responder]

Community Wishlist Survey 2023 opens in January![editar]

Por favor, ayuda a traducir a tu idioma

Hola

We are inviting you to share your ideas for technical improvements to our tools and platforms. Long experience in editing or technical skills is not required. If you have ever used our software and thought of an idea to improve it, this is the place to come share those ideas!

The dates for the phases of the Survey will be as follows:

  • Phase 1: Submit, discuss, and revise proposals – Monday Jan. 23 2023 to Sunday, Feb. 6 2023
  • Phase 2: WMF/Community Tech reviews and organizes proposals – Monday, Jan. 30, 2023 to Friday, Feb. 10 2023
  • Phase 3: Vote on proposals – Friday, Feb. 10 2023 to Friday, Feb. 24 2023
  • Phase 4: Results posted – Tuesday, February 28 2023

If you want to start writing out your ideas ahead of the Survey, you can start thinking about your proposals and draft them in the CWS sandbox.

We are grateful to all who participated last year. See you in January 2023!

¡Muchas gracias! Community Tech, STei (WMF) 12:26 13 dic 2022 (UTC)[responder]

Automatic citations based on ISBN are broken[editar]

Apologies if this message does not reach you in your favorite language. You can help translate it centrally at Meta. Thanks for your help.

We have recently become unable to access the WorldCat API which provided the ability to generate citations using ISBN numbers. The Wikimedia Foundation's Editing team is investigating several options to restore the functionality, but will need to disable ISBN citation generation for now.

This affects citations made with the VisualEditor Automatic tab, and the use of the citoid API in gadgets and user scripts, such as the autofill button on refToolbar. Please note that all the other automatic ways of generating citations, including via URL or DOI, are still available.

You can keep updated on the situation via Phabricator, or by reading the next issues of m:Tech News. If you know of any users or groups who rely heavily on this feature (for instance, someone who has an upcoming editathon), I'd appreciate it if you shared this update with them.

Elitre (WMF), on behalf of the Editing team.

Wikimedia Apps newsletter – First quarter of 2024[editar]

Hello, and welcome to the app’s first newsletter in 2024!

It has been a long year; we published four editions of our newsletter, which you can go through all of them. In this edition, we will cover our work for the last quarter of 2023 and the first quarter of 2024!

Android[editar]

  • Edit Patrol (also known as Patroller tasks on Android) has been released to Beta testers with rollback rights on Test Wiki and Indonesian Wikipedia. We had a productive meeting with Indonesian users to introduce and discuss the new patrolling tasks feature on the Android app, as we provided a detailed presentation on the feature, and collected valuable feedback from the Indonesian community to enhance the user experience.
For those interested, a meeting recording is available.
We conducted outreach to Spanish, and French Wikipedia communities during February 2024.
  • We hosted two synchronous community consultations & recorded a third where we shared the Edit Patrol suggested edit workflow, and showed designs for Saved messages and templates:
  • Places feature is back to the Wikipedia Android app!
Places is a feature that allows you to discover articles by location.
The iOS app was able to maintain the feature via use of Apple Maps, but it was necessary for Android audiences that we continue using an open source map.

iOS[editar]

  • Suggested Edits on iOS prototype is in the experimental build. Instructions to test the feature can be found on this FAQ page.
Alt text is text associated with an image that serves the same purpose and conveys the same essential information as the image.
The app's product manager presented our team's work and prototype (iOS suggested edits) to the GLAM conference audience. All details can be found in the presentation's deck.
  • It is now possible to donate using Apple Pay directly from the app.
  • IOS Native Editor Improvement Development is out!
You will be able to edit, find and replace, and insert links and images directly from Commons without any performance issues!
Additionally, it is now possible to edit a full article page and a talk page.

In the current quarter, we aim to engage with editors from LATAM, Spanish-speaking regions, North America, and the Caribbean to test Suggested edits and the new native editor features.

Community meetings[editar]

  • We participated in the GLAM conference in November 2023. All the details are mentioned in the iOS section of this edition from the newsletter.
  • On December 1st of 2023, The Wikipedia Android team met with Indonesian users to introduce and discuss the new patrolling tasks feature on the Android app. The team provided a detailed presentation on the feature and collected valuable feedback. A meeting recording is available.
  • We joined the Wiki Editoras Lx editathon on December 16th to gather feedback about an alt-text Suggested Edit task on iOS.
Attendees were generally positive about the prospect of the feature. Experienced editors thought it could be a good task for on-boarding new editors, but also a more casual way of contributing for new editors.

And you can subscribe to this newsletter.
